Novena to St. Michael the Archangel
Michael — his name means “Who is like God?” — is the archangel who cast the proud enemy out of heaven and stands guard over God’s people (Daniel 12; Revelation 12). Pray this novena for protection, strength in temptation, and a humble heart, confident that the victory already belongs to Christ.
Begins September 20, ending the eve of Michaelmas.
Pray one day's prayer each day, nine days in a row. The next day opens tomorrow, and days you've prayed stay open to reread.
Day 1 of 9 · Who is like God?
St. Michael the Archangel, your very name is a battle cry: Who is like God?
When pride rose in heaven and a creature would not serve, you answered not with your own strength but with that question, and it was enough. Teach me to make it mine. When I am tempted to build my life around myself — my plans, my image, my way — let your cry sound in my heart and turn me back to the One who alone is worthy of all glory.
St. Michael, pray for me, that God may be first in everything.
Amen.
Conclude with an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be.
