Act of Hope
Actus Spei
The second of the catechism Acts. It does not hope in anything about ourselves; it names God’s power, mercy and promises as the ground, and asks for three things: pardon, grace and heaven. The phrase “through the merits of Jesus Christ” is the Catholic answer to how a sinner can expect any of it.
Traditional, catechism tradition; Baltimore Catechism
O my God, relying on your almighty power
and infinite mercy and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
the help of your grace,
and life everlasting,
through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.
Amen.
