Divine Praises
Laudes Divinae
Luigi Felici, a Jesuit in Rome, wrote these lines in 1797 to make up for the swearing and blasphemy he heard in the streets. Each line blesses something people had cursed: God, his Name, Jesus, Mary, the saints. Later popes added the lines on the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption and St. Joseph, so the list has grown with the Church’s devotion.
