Morning Offering
Fr. François-Xavier Gautrelet, a French Jesuit, wrote it in 1844 for seminarians who wanted to be missionaries but were kept in the classroom: they could offer the ordinary day as it was. The Apostleship of Prayer, now the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, spread it to millions, and the Pope still publishes a monthly intention for those who pray it. The habit it builds is simple: nothing done today is left outside the offering.
Fr. François-Xavier Gautrelet, SJ, 1844
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day,
for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,
in reparation for my sins,
for the intentions of all my relatives and friends,
and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father.
Amen.
